What is the Wings for Life World Run?

The Wings for Life World Run is a truly unique and global race for both runners and wheelchair participants. Instead of a finish line, competitors race side by side to keep ahead of the Virtual Catcher Car. Now in its eleventh year, on 4. maj 2025 Wings for Life World Run participants in Austria can also run together in Ruprechtshofen. Meet up with your friends, download the Wings for Life World Run App and join all the other people running until the Virtual Catcher Car catches you of course. The race starts at exactly 13:00:00. The Virtual Catcher Car takes off 30 minutes after the start at 14 km/h and steadily increases its speed until the last athletes have been caught. 100% of all donations and the entry fees go directly into spinal cord research projects.

Track

The run starts at the car park of the primary school in Ruprechtshofen, where there is ample parking for participants and visitors. The route runs along the idyllic Melkuferweg, which is characterised by picturesque landscapes, flowering meadows and fresh country air.

The route is predominantly flat and therefore ideal for both beginners and experienced runners. Unfortunately, the route is not accessible for wheelchair users, but we will be happy to provide an alternative route on request so that they can also be part of this special event.

A special highlight are the five crossings of the Melk tributary, which allow different distances as a circuit. The longest lap is around 11 kilometres long, with the last bridge being crossed at the fire station in Diesendorf. From there, the route leads back to the start and finish area via the newly created wild fruit nature trail.

To motivate and support the participants along the way, there will be markers and motivational signs along the route, which will always bring a smile to the face and make the next stage tangible.

A special highlight is the five crossings over the Melk tributary, making it possible to complete various distances as loops. The longest loop covers approximately 11 km, with the final bridge located near the fire station in Diesendorf. From there, the route leads back through the charming wild fruit educational trail to the start and finish area.

Water stations will be available at the start and finish point, and a group warm-up will get everyone in the right mood and prepared for the run. From 12:00 PM onwards, culinary refreshments will be offered on-site, ensuring participants are well taken care of. The route along the Melk river path combines natural beauty with a sporty challenge, creating a unique experience for all participants.

Water stations will be available at the start and finish points, and a joint warm-up will ensure the right atmosphere before the start. Culinary refreshments will be waiting for all participants and visitors from 12:00 noon. We are focussing on regionality to support local suppliers and offer everyone a culinary experience with fresh, high-quality products.

For families and accompanying persons, there will be various activities in the start and finish area to make the day a highlight for everyone - there's something for everyone.

The route along the Melkuferweg combines enjoyment of nature with a sporting challenge and creates a motivating, communal experience where every step counts for a good cause.

Wheelchair participants

On 4. maj 2025 wheelchair participants and runners start side by side at this track. The only requirement: wheelchair participants have to start in everyday wheelchairs.
