Join a team and have even more fun!
Wow. More than 2,500 teams have already signed up for this year’s Wings for Life World Run – and that impressive total has been achieved a full four weeks before race day. That’s also 600 more teams compared to April last year. It seems there’s an especially strong yearning for team spirit this year.
We totally get that. The endless pandemic lockdowns, the closed offices, and the remote university and school classes: we’re all somehow really missing that sense of belonging and the feeling of mutual support. That helps explain why the team competition this year is more popular than ever before.
Browse through our team section and find inspiration for which team to join. It’s never been easier. Here’s a little guide what to expect:
VIP Teams
There are top athletes leading some teams such as former World Cup skiers Felix Neureuther of Germany and Austria’s Marcel Hirscher. Austrian hockey player Thomas Raffl and former German soccer league star Wolfgang “Kowalski” Mair started their own Team Raffl/Kowalski. South African ultrarunner Ryan Sandes is the captain of team Suunto that also inclues Swedish mountainbike icon Emil Johansson and Austrian paraglider pilot Paul Guschlbauer.

Corporate Teams
Fancy running for a specific company? There are teams organized by major global companies such as Google, carmakers Audi and Volkswagen, the Sky broadcasting company, Suunto the watchmaker and global partner and KTM, the Austrian motorcycle and sports car maker.
Teams with big goals
There are also teams that are eager to break new records for donations raised or kilometer run. The Red Bull USA & Canada team have set themselves an ambitious target of $100,000 to be collected for the run’s good cause and already have 1,942 runners on the team who’ve pledged more than $80,000 towards that goal. Ultrarunner Flo Neuschwander, who recently broke the 100 kilometer world treadmill record, wants to run the most kilometers with his team at the Wings for Life World Run on May 9 and already has 834 members on his team.

Teams running for a specific person
There are many teams running for specific individuals such as Team Torsten which has 68 members already and is captained by Torsten Neumayr. He suffered serious injuries in 2018 in a mountain-climbing accident and would like nothing more than to run again. “That’s why we created Team Torsten to support as best as we can Wings for Life and its research efforts with the help of friends, acquaintances and colleagues so that I can one day run again myself.”
